How do I set up my fingerprint scanner as an unlock feature?

Dumb question about fingerprint scanner.....

The fingerprint scanner can be used to unlock the phone right? I have fingerprints setup and Screen lock type set to "Fingerprints", but when I press the power button to unlock, it doesn't unlock with my fingerprint and says "Swipe screen to unlock".

What am I missing???

Do you have any trusted devices or places set up? If so it bypasses the lockscreen protection and defaults to swipe as long as your device/location is connected.

Don't push the button, just rest your finger on it.

Not that I know of, how would I check?

Re: Dumb question about fingerprint scanner.....

So a few times randomly it has asked for my fingerprint instead of swipe, but 95% of the time it says to swipe. So frustrating!

Same thing is happening with me. I've noticed that my phone always asks for fingerprint scan whenever it reboots. Otherwise, it's always swipe.

Re: Dumb question about fingerprint scanner.....

I posted a similar thing yesterday and following this thread I can confirm that it is to do with trusted agents.

Go into security and scroll all the way down to 'Trusted Agents' and try removing some of the options in here. For me it was 'Google Smart Lock' the one that automatically locks your phone if it's not on you.

Disabling that option sorted my power button lock

Hope this helps

Re: Dumb question about fingerprint scanner.....

The only trusted agent I have is the Google smart lock. I turned that off, rebooted and it asked for fingerprint after the reboot, but went right back to swipe after that.

Grrrrrrrrr

Damn, that worked for mine...

If you leave yours to timeout and lock, does it ask you for the fingerprint then?

Re: Dumb question about fingerprint scanner.....

Nope. Ironically, when I pulled the phone out of my pocket just now it asked for my fingerprint, but I can't get it to do it again.

Go to Settings>Lock screen and security>Secure lock settings>Secured lock time>Instantly with power key

Re: Dumb question about fingerprint scanner.....

Is there a way to set up a pin as the fingerprint backup instead of a password?

Re: Dumb question about fingerprint scanner.....

If the display times out the phone should lock within 10 seconds. It may be a little more or less time, I can't remember the default time setting for locking the device after the screen times out. It will lock though....eventually.
