Like the title says, when I get a new message, on most phones it would say in the notification "new message from tom" or something like that. Is there a way to make the galaxy s4 do that? Whenever I get a new message it just says "new message" but doesn't tell me who it's from. Thanks

I believe that's controlled by the messaging app.
Install a different one, I use Chompsms and it displays the sender and message

There is a setting for the stock app that says "preview message". Check that and it will display like you want it to.

I turned off in message settings preview, now when I receive a text I get "new text messages". When turned on I get the contacts name & some of the text written from the person. Is there a way I can receive the contacts name only?

...and mine used to work just like that until I did the update to Lollipop yesterday, now I don't have the "preview" option in my messaging settings anymore. Anyone got any ideas now? JessePinkman? Any help will be greatly appreciated...I love that we can update to the newest android versions, but each one is just different enough to make life frustrating for a few days after the update!

I had the same issue after the upgrade. Open the messenger. Select the menu button (at the bottom left). Select settings > Notifications and uncheck preview message. It started working for me after it was unchecked. If that doesn't work, try going back into Notifications and checking preview message.

the preview message will not stay off .Every time I uncheck it ,, it comes back on when I return to page
