How do I silence a ringtone on my HTC Desire Eye?

Ringtone on HTC Desire Eye

Rings forever during receipt of a text. Have to turn phone off to stop - it is a custom ringtone, if that matters

Welcome to Android Central! How long is the custom ringtone? Maybe you could trim it down using an app like Ringdroid.
