Google Chrome: Fast & Secure has been installing for hours. I've restarted the phone, powered off and left off, from within Google Play I can tap into the app but Cancel and Open are greyed, from within Settings/Apps I've Forced closed and Cleared cache but it's still grinding away. How do I stop this install?

Have you cleared the app cache/data from both the Play Store app and the Download Manager app?

I cleared the app cache, Google Play Services cache, and the Google Play Store cache. I don't know where to look to clear the cache for the Download Manager app.

Go to Settings>Apps, then tap Menu>Show System. Make sure to clear the app cache and app data for the Play Store app and Download Manager.

I cleared the Download Manager and Google Play Store cache and app data. It stopped the update but now I get a message from the Play Store saying Can't install Chrome when I tap update it downloads and updates then says Can't install Chrome.

Now that the update is not running it's not longer grinding on my battery life so I'm all good.

Thank you for help and I learned something new things about my phone.

Forget about Chrome and install Firefox. (At least Mozilla has an active troubleshooting system running - if you post an actual bug, they start working on it or suggest ways around it.)

Strange -- are you using the stable Chrome, or one of the beta versions?

It's whatever version Google Play updated me to, my phone has never been a beta for anything. Google Play/Apps now says Chrome updated 6 hours ago.

Ok, so now the Play Store no longer shows an Update button for Chrome? What version of Chrome are you currently running? I'm on 77.0.3865.92.

That's the version that I have. Looks like it updated after the difficult situation.

Google Play updated me to 77.0.3865.116.

This phone has been a pig ever since the version 10 update.

Battery life...I've never complained about my battery life till now.
Smart lock does not work....have to reboot 3-4 times throughout the day to get it to work correctly.
Wallpaper keeps disappearing....usually after a phone reboot.
Phone reboots has my phone booting into a black screen...haven't a clue why but has done it so many times now I don't panic.
3G and no bars in Albuquerque, Phoenix San Diego....beyond pissed off at Google fi
App taking over an hour to install....this is something new

I've seen a number of posts on this forum about problems with Android 10 on Pixel phones, although it seems relatively sporadic. I haven't had any issues on mine. It might be worth biting the bullet and doing a factory reset.

Yes I'm heading towards a factory reset.

Im doing a Factory Reset from Settings/System/Erase all data (factory reset) as I scrolled down there is a tick box turned on that says:
Erase downloaded SIMs To download replacement SIMs, contact your carrier. This won't cancel any mobile service plans.

Do I leave this box ticked on.....I have Google fi

That's a good question, I'm not sure. I assume this is referring to the eSIM. Give Google Fi support a call: 1-844-TALK-2-FI

I had a similar experience. What I realized is that although it says "installing" actually it's just downloading the update. Mine lasted about two hours but once it stopped the Chrome update showed up as a regular app update, and installed easily in seconds.

I had the same problem. Clearing data and cache from Google Play fixed it for me.

I did a factory reset this morning. Took the option of using a previous backup to restore the phone if my phone continues to experience all these problems I'll do another factory reset and not use a backup to restore from a backup.
