How do I stop my Samsung S5 from "Scanning"

My Samsung S5 is "Scanning" even when I am in my own WiFi network and when I leave the network. It wears the battery down in a few hours. How do I stop it from scanning all the time?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you seeing a notification that something is scanning?

There's a swtch to turn scanning off - but when you're on the Wifi page, it's going to scan anyway. It's assumed that the only reason you're on that page is to look for a Wifi signal to connect to. As soon as you close that page (Back button, not Home button), scanning stops.
