How do I stop videos autoplaying on a Pixel 8??

When I open "Google Photo's", tap a photo to open it and then swipe left or right to go to the next photo etc, if the next thing is a video, it automatically starts playing the video which is really annoying, especially if the phone is not on silent!!
How do I disable autoplay?? The phone is a Pixel 8 and it's running Android 14, it's easy to do in the Apps like facebook etc but I can not find a way to turn it off in google photo's.

Open the photos app then tap your avatar on the upper right side go to photo settings>preference>photo grid playback>turn off videos

I have done that, it did not do anything, videos still autoplay.

It never did it on my Android 11 phone, oh well looks like it's going back and I'll have to either use my old phone or get an iPhone.

I haven't paid attention but Android 14 has changed things

Welcome to Android Central! You could always try a 3rd party gallery app like Simple Gallery Pro or Piktures. I would also send feedback to Google about it from within the Google Photos app settings, since you do make a very good point about this.

I have done exactly that, hopefully they will fix it.
