How do i take screenshots?

So, my name says it all. Totally new to android. All I want to know if its possible to take screenshots. If so., how? Please help

hold the volume buttons both up and down.

But when I do that all it does is let me draw on a blank white screen. There is no picture?

When you press the volume buttons at the same time then touch the little scare thing on the top right corner and the picture will be saved in your phones gallery
