How to Tether with my Galaxy s5

Until a week ago I had a Samsung Galaxy s4. When need be I could easily tether my s4 as a hotspot, usually when my laptop was out of range of a Wifi network. Now that I have the Samsung Galaxy s5 I am having difficulties. When I turn on the tethering (Mobile Hotspot) I have it set to all devices to connect. When I go to my laptop and view the available networks, although I see the Android AP network listed, I get a message that I cannot connect to that network. I am not doing anything differently than I used to do with my s4. Is there something I need to do with the s5 that I am not aware of?
Thanks!

The first time I used my hotspot I had to set up the network on my laptop before it would work(the part where they ask you whether it's a home, work, or public network) .

Thanks. Could you explain how to do that? What I did discover was the MAC for my laptop, which I put into my s5. The strange thing is that the hotspot only works when I set it as an open network with no security. When I set it for only allowing certain devices (such as my laptop), it won't connect. Any ideas? I would prefer to use it more securely.
