Android Central Question

I'd like to get a new Android phone with bigger memory. Just wondered if it's possible to set up a new phone with my existing Gmail account, but transfer only the contacts (no apps, photos etc) from the current phone

When you set up your new phone just sign in with the same Google Account, it gives you the option whether you want to restore from a previous back up or start fresh. If you don't pick a back up you still get your contacts but it won't automatically download apps or other data. Any app you have now will still be linked to your Google Account and available to download from the Play Store.

Welcome to Android Central! For photos, if you have Google Photos sync turned on, it'll sync the photos that are in your Google Photos cloud -- but this won't take that much space because the photos aren't physically downloading to the phone.
