I have an ATT Samsung galaxy s5 active and I don't like the LTE service. I want to turn it off.

Welcome to Android Central! Usually, there's an option in Settings>Mobile Networks>Preferred Network Type, but the manual for your phone indicates that option isn't available on your specific phone. Instead, try dialing *#*#4636#*#* from the Phone Dialer, then select Phone Information. Look for a Set Preferred Network Type option, and select 2G/3G, or \GSM/WCDMA only.

You can turn on and off LTE on the AT&T GS5. Go to settings-Data Usage and tap mobile data. tap standard data and enhanced 4G LTE services to turn it off (uncheck both boxes). If you want to turn them back on tap each to put the checkmark back in the boxes..
