How do I undo one handed operation?

I know there is a thread on this somewhere...I found it before but can't seem to find it now. Here's the rub. I did the recommended fix by stretching out the spacebar but when it switched back to what appeared to be two handed operation, all I got was a open area where the keyboard should've been. There was a bar up top for fonts and other things, along with a keyboard button but when you tap the button it goes back to one handed operation. I tried various things in settings to see if it would help...but nothing did. It has to be something simple that I'm missing. I'm disabled and need the two handed functionality bcuz my hands are jacked up a bit. Hopefully somebody else has experienced thesame thing can get me out of this jamb. It's frustrating as hell. I got into this mess when I was texting my sis and I got a frigging twitch and and hit something that put it into one handed mode dammit! Thanks in advance everyone.
