How Do I Unlock My Moto X Bootloader?

I'm pretty sure that's a decision up to carriers, not manufacturers. Verizon has always been locked down, with the exception of the Galaxy Nexus.

Unlocking the bootloader on your Dev Edition will void the warranty. The reason why AT&T and Verizon offer the Dev Edition is because the standard X's will not be unlocked... unless this has changed: Bootloader Unlock Supported on Verizon? - xda-developers

Nope. they recently changed the policy. unlocking dev edition won't void your warranty.. it was on AC front page Motorola to offer factory images for Developer Editions, no longer void warranties | Android Central

I want to be able to WiFi tether for free on Verizon with unlimited data plan. The KitKat update patched the exploit that FoxFi was using to allow it. They may find another, but for sure you can do it with root.

I can root without unlocking the bootloader, though. Just trying to decide whether or not to unlock the bootloader, too, because I would hate to go through all of the trouble of rooting only to later decide to unlock the bootloader and then have to reroot. Unlocking the bootloader wipes the device.
