I bought an unlocked factory reset Nexus 6P yesterday and want 7.1.1 on it, and it currently has 7.0. I downloaded an OTA file for 7.1.1 and followed the recovery mode steps but when I get to the part to install it from my storage(and yes, I have a copy of the download in both the download and internal storage locations) my only options are "install from SD card" and "install from ADB" and neither work. I also enrolled my phone in the Android Beta program last night and while it has not been 24 hours yet I nevertheless refresh the update checker frequently and it always says the phone is up to date, so maybe I'll get it closer to the 24 hour mark? I'm willing to rooting the 6P if need be (as long as there is a method that is simply to unroot/flash stock firmware should I choose to), I just want the new features and best performance.

What happens when you attempt the sideload of the OTA file in recovery? Do you get an error?

In case you aren't aware, when you see that "install via ADB", you need to plug your phone into a computer that has the ADB (Android Debug Bridge) software loaded. There are a few different ways.. install the Android SDK (overkill), install a portable release of Fastboot & ADB, or install a toolkit like Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit.

The screen goes black when I select the ADB option and it says the memory card location can't be found (which makes sense given there's no expandable memory). If I wait a full 24 hours should I get it automatically for being enrolled in the beta program?

Shouldn't you have the OTA file in the same directory on your computer where you're executing the ADB command from? (I don't normally mess with loading OTA files via ADB, preferring to flash the full image instead, so I'm just asking.)

You sure you picked load via ADB? That should have brought you to a different screen where it waits for you to issue the adb command to sideload the OTA.

I selected the ADB option on the phone in recovery mode and the screen just goes black, I think there may be text in the bottom left of the screen asking for a prompt or something.

Yeah... At that point, you need to issue the adb command (adb sideload <file>) from a connected computer.
