How do you assign different text tones?

Ok ive been trying to find a way but i can't. Do you guys know how to assign different text tones to your contacts?

You're correct. But this is easily remedied via much better third party SMS apps anyway. Check out Handcent SMS or GO SMS Pro. Both are excellent and they allow you to set custom ringtones for your incoming text messages from any of your contacts.
