How do you care for your phone?

i hear for phones.. 6 months is a long time to own one?

like if you're upset over a phone dying at 6 months old, most people will tell you thats just common.
6 months isn't a long time to own a phone. Some people switch phones every 4-6 months, but that's not typical. They can last years if you take care of them. My 3+ year old Galaxy S2 Skyrocket is still in great working condition. Some of my friends and family go through phones every 6-8 months, but they generally abuse their phones.

lmao oh noo.. i feel you on that.

yeah.. ive been looking up all kinds of info on "proper" phone care since mine died. hoping my next purchase lasts.

Lol, good luck. Im back with my old Nokia and im still thinking which one to take. It takes time to decide:-\ By the way, your avatar is cool. Breaking Bad, i love it:D

When I bought my S3 I was kind of careless, had no case for it. It fell on the floor and got a (small) display crack (top right corner) in the first month. It is not too bad as it does not influence visiblity or useablility of the phone, but of course I was pissed. Right after that I bought a case for it. Never dropped it again ever since ^^. I do not know if the case will prevent any damage when it actually falls down, but I will get one for my next new device right away. So I would definetely care for a phone by protecting it. Even if a case only gives you extra grip so you do not drop it in the first place.

On the software side: I do a reboot at least once a month and I throw away apps immediately that I know I will not use anymore.

it depends on taking care of it physically or in terms of software.

I would give my phone a good quality TPU bumper with a good tempered glass screen protector. Once in a while I would take it out of the casing for a good cleaning from human grease and dust.

software wise I normally just take extra care on what kind of apps I install, since I have my phone rooted. Also I tend to avoid overclocking and do crazy things on my phone....It's just not an experiment apparatus for me.

I don't have bumpers or any physical protection.
For software, my phone restart by itself. And sometimes i delete unused apps.

I've been told by an fellow engineer (not a consumer electronics authority, but knows a little more science on battery tech) that ideally you don't want the battery to exceed 80% or go below 20%. For practicality's sake, I don't worry so much about the going over 80%, since I just charge it overnight. However, I do think it's prudent to keep it from "deep cycling" or discharging past 20%

My GS4 has a 2-piece shock-absorbing case. I make sure to drop it once a month. Screen protectors are nice, but I hate how they wash out the colors. I've got anti-virus software, for when Lizard Squad wannabees decide to attach viruses to apps on the app store. Okay, maybe I don't have it for that reason, but still a good thing to have.
