How Do You Clean Up Data From Apps That You Deleted?

I have downloaded some apps that after running them the first time downloaded an additional couple hundred MB of data. Like Brother in Arms and Sky Map. I'm not so sure after deleting the app that the huge files they downloaded were deleted with them. In fact I'm sure of it after looking around on the root browser.

1. My question is how do you completely delete ALL DATA associated with an app the first time?
2. Additionally, if I already deleted the app, how do I clean up the leftover data?

The only App data that may get left behind after an uninstall should mainly exist on your SD card, so fire up a file manager like Astro and manually delete the residual files and folders. As a general practice, when I uninstall an App, I first close it, then hit clear data, then uninstall it. Doing this can still leave some things behind however.

If you're rooted, there's an App called SDMaid, that does a really good job of cleaning up orphaned data.

It works on non-rooted phones but it's intended for rooted devices for full features.

Thanks for that suggestion but what if I don't have an SD card or didn't get an SD card until after I installed those apps?

While you may not have a physical SD card in your phone, the phone's internal memory segments off a section labeled as "sdcard". Think of your phone's internal memory in terms of 3 parts:

1) System Memory (the phone doesn't show you this like it doesn't exist) - this is where all of your system files are
2) App Memory (the phone calls this "Device memory") - this is where all of the user apps you choose to install are
3) Internal Memory (internal sdcard .. The phone calls this "USB Storage") - this is where everything else goes

So if you open up My Files for example, all the files and folders you see there are actually in the /sdcard folder. This is where Apps will often store extra data, where your pictures and videos go (in the DCIM folder), and where you can move installed Apps to free up some "User App" storage space which is limited to 2GB. It is here that you can look for folders that have descriptions of Apps that you have uninstalled, which probably contain App data that you don't need or want anymore.
