How do you get "OK Goggle" to consistently to unlock the lock screen?

When I say "OK Google", the Google assistant seems to hear me, because it responds with a brief tone, but it inconsistently unlocks the lock screen whether I have the AOD turned on or or not. It remains on the AOD although occasionally if I repeat "OK Goggle", it will go immediately to the Google assistant screen.

I think I have all of the correct settings turned on both on my phone and in the Google app, including the Smart lock setting for unlock with trusted voice, and OK Google permission to unlock my phone in the Google app settings.

The only way I get the OK Google command to consistently unlock my phone and go to the Google assistant page is to hard press the home button after I hear the chime tone.

Is anyone else experiencing the same difficulty and figured a better work around than hard pressing the home button after saying "OK Goggle" ?

Bixby, unlocks my phone all the time. Not a problem at all.
Hi Bixby

Im not sure ok Google can unlock phone, at least I've never tried it.
I know Im rolling up the Bixby rankings and points.
Hope I helped.
Ok Google is going to want you to hit that home button afterwards. nope, hands free is the whole point, or in an emergency.

good luck bro

Bixby does work fine for certain tasks, especially involving your phone settings. It does unlock the screen. But I get very inconsistent results with calling people with difficult to pronounce names. She doesn't seem to hear them correctly and then can't find that name in my contacts. But OK Google gets it right every time.

You are right about being able to do hands free commands, especially if driving. Fortunately, even if "OK Goggle" doesn't unlock my screen and automatically go to the assistant page, she will make a call for me with the screen locked. But if an an

Does anyone else have this problem or not with OK Google? Or is everyone else exclusively using Bixby?

You've said it all..

Yes it does.

You have a password protect on your phone to unlock it by pin, iris scan, or facial unlock.

Because if you say
"Ok Google" to unlock your phone. You get vibration and edge light notification for attempt to unlock. It can't get passed anything until you hit the home button.

Well I use Smart Lock also. If I am home or in the car it works. It also works in the gym where I do not use Smart Lock.

It should unlock because there is a setting toggle within Smart Lock for trusted voice specific to your saying OK Google which allows it bypass any pin, face, password, iris, or fingerprint protection you have set. The trouble is it is very inconsistent in working right.

I too just have to say OK Google and my phone unlocks, it was a few more extra steps and voice training if I remember correctly.

Which carrier do you have? By any chance do you have any trusted location or edge lighting turned on?

I am with Sprint, and I have everything turned on. I believe in turning on everything. I want to enjoy my phone.

Well it could just be a problem with Verizon. I just found another older thread here with another Verizon user having the same problem. Eliminating the trusted location seemed to help, but ok Google often needed to be repeated a second time in order for it to work.

There you go, I knew it was more to it. Smart lock is a nice feature.

I'll keep letting Bixby run the show. Slowly climbing up the ladder of rankings. lol
