In Settings/Apps/All there is a Sound Recorder App listed. However, in my Apps list from the link on my home page there is no icon for Sound Recorder. How do you open Sound Recorder when there is no icon?

I think this is for recording your voice for Moto Voice & Google Now.

That was listed in my Galaxy Nexus as well but there was no built in app for it. I use Easy Voice Recorder Pro. There's a free version too. Has a blue microphone icon.

Good suggestion, thanks. Still seems odd that the device has a sound recorder that you are not allowed to open.

All the voice commands are actually recorded, sent to servers online for response & actions.

The point being that the Sound Recorder you're seeing isn't for you to use for note taking, it's for the above purpose outlined by maxman1. A built in note taking application might have been nice, but as others have mentioned, the Play Store has some free ones.

I understand there are apps in the Play Store that will do this, but I avoid adding these to my device whenever possible. If you look at most of those apps they ask for a lot of permissions just so you can record something. Not sure why all the Samsung devices I had always had an icon to open the "Voice Recorder" or "Sound Recorder." OK, I've beat this dead horse and will quit now.

Other options to use is Google Keep or simply in Google say "note to self"

I'm interested in this question too. I have the droid turbo, and would like to record my voice for an alarm. Can't find anywhere how to do this, any suggestions?

It WAS showing up of my GS6 until the last update. I can still access it through the Voice Command. Go to Smart Voice then say> Voice Recorder.

The only way I found to open the voice recorder on the HTC 10 is to use Okay Google and say start voice recorder.
