How do you select a text/phone number within a contact from gallery app?

This seems simple, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Many people in my contacts have multiple phone numbers. One for their home land-line, one for their work phone, and one for their cell phone, etc.

Sometimes I want to share a photo I've taken from within the gallery app. But I can't find any way to select a particular number from within a contact. I can only send the photo to the default phone number for any particular person.

Is there some way to expand the contact and select the number I want? This would be particularly handy when trying to send the same photo to several recipients.

Thanks.

Yes just touch the contact name then it will expand a small box below the name. At the top of the box you'll see a phone number. It may say Mobile, Home or Office etc. Touch the arrow to the right and it'll show the other numbers. I hope that's what you mean.

No this is not what you mean. Sorry

Hey. I appreciate the answer, but it doesn't work for me when I'm working from within the gallery app.

Here's what I'm trying:

I launch the gallery.

I select a photo.

Below the photo, along the bottom of the screen, I find a selection of icons. One of them is the "share" icon that looks like three circles connected by two lines, forming a triangular shape. I press that icon.

That brings up a menu of icons, one of which is "messages". I press that to get into the messaging app to send the photo to some folks via text messaging.

That brings up a dialog with two selections:
Existing contacts
and
New contact.

I select "Existing contacts" and press "OK"

That gets me into what looks like my normal "Contacts" app.

I scroll down and select a contact.

It just highlights the check mark next to that contact, and, for many of the contacts it does not allow me to expand the contact and select from the various phone numbers within that contact.

However, for some of the contacts it DOES open a selection dialog!

Perhaps, if you've ever set one of the numbers to be the "default", then you're locked into that one. I wonder if there's a way to "undo" the default selections for contacts.

I always want the ability to select the number from within a contact, but this appears to be impossible now for at least one of my contacts. Very strange!

Hey! I drilled into the contacts, using the "contacts" app button, and was able to "deselect default" or some such for the offending number within the offending contact. I wonder if that will free things up. Let that be a lesson to me to NEVER set a number in a contact to be the default!

I did this by getting into the edit contact mode, and then long-pressing the offending default number and that gave me a choice to deselect the default (I don't remember the wording). Very interesting, and kind of a pain.

I'd like to be able to set numbers to be the default, but that doesn't mean I want to give up the ability to select one of the other numbers at any time and from within any app.

Having a default setting doesn't mean I never again want to use any of the other numbers. ;)

Edit to add:

Yep. That fixes it. If you undo the setting for a number to be the default, then it "unlocks" that contact so you do get the dialog that lets you select a different number from within that contact. Woo Hoo!

I see what you mean. Maybe set the contact up under a different name with the number you want to send it to. For example the name is Mike, add another name like Mike (messages) and assign the number you wanna use.

I'm glad you found a way.

Yes. I thought about doing that, and it wouldn't be all that bad because, really, there are only a few folks in the contacts with whom I'll likely be texting, anyhow, so it really wouldn't create many extra entries.
