Without having done it, I would say same as others. Wipe everything, install from Rom Manager

root, flash recovery via rom manager and then download roms on your pc and transfer to the phone and flash in recovery after wiping dalvik and data

No. I'm assuming you have experience with CWM Recovery; it's almost identical (except for the root process, flashing ROMs is no different).

I am new to all this rooting stuff. I have a decent grasp of it. I was wondering, can you download the ROM (zip file) directly to your SD card and then flash?

Thanks!

Be sure to download it to the internal storage ('sdcard') and not the removable one ('extSdCard') as CWM will only see the removable one if it's formatted as FAT32 (default when formatting on the phone is exFAT)
