How do you switch to 3g only?

Settings>wireless & networks>mobile networks(no checkbox)>click on CDMA only. Done!

install the "lte on off" app from the android market, and switch that way. it also allows you to use lte only instead of lte and cdma which is the default setting. still not as good as a switcher though.

I actually downloaded and tried that (LTE on/off). Is it supposed to bring up a screen of techno-data? I abandoned it thinking I was going to seriously screw something up. Or did I not have it configured right?

that's the right screen. you can manually select what you want. in lte areas, i select lte only (voice). when i go to 3g areas, i use cdma auto prl i found these settings to work better than the default lte+ cdma setting, but you can try to see what works best for you.
