The 2014 came with the groups of apps named Galaxy Plus, Google, and Samsung. How do you ungroup these and/or unbind these groups?

Just long press on each one and drag it out of the group onto the the desktop

I anticipate that the OP didn't want these on the desktop but simply wants them out of groups within the app drawer. That is exactly what I want to do as well. Putting an app like Flipboard within a folder group called Samsung is just plain stupid.

Then long press the app and select the remove option

Long press the group, only option is to place on the Desktop. Long press one of the apps within the group, options are Place on Desktop, Create Folder, App Info, and Cancel. No option to remove.

If that is the case then your version of android is behaving differently to mine. Try dragging the icon to the top centre of the screen, does it give you a remove option by dropping it there?

This is something that bugged me also. Just messed around with it and I think I figured it out. Below I am referring to the Apps/Widget drawer that is accessed by selecting the button in the bottom right corner of the screen that looks like a 4 X 4 grid of squares; I am not referring to a desktop folder

1. Go into the app drawer by selecting the icon in the bottom right corner of the screen
2. Hit the menu button
3. Select "Edit" (you will notice the view of the icon "window" will shrink and some options will appear along the top of the screen)
4. Select the folder you want to remove icons from - it will expand showing all the icons
5. Long press on the icon you want to move and slide it out of the folder; the folder will disappear and you can let go. It will then move to match how you have the apps organized (alphabetical, etc).

Bonus - If you want to add an app to a folder follow through step 4 and click the "+" sign in the folder then you can select the apps you want in the folder followed by selecting "done" in the top right corner.

Hope this is understandable.

Thanks so much for your well detailed answer to the OP. I've been trying to figure this out for a while myself - I stupidly grouped some apps that I'd downloaded, then could never find because they weren't listed alpha, and I'd forgotten where I grouped them. SO glad to find your post!

On the app drawer page, tap edit. In edit, click on the little minus sign next to the icon. It will bring all apps out of the folder.
You can form folders of your own choice later.

Go to the app folder, and click the "+" (plus button). Uncheck the apps you want to remove. Done. This plus function is used to add and remove apps from those folders/groups
