How does Samsung trade-in work?

I'd like to upgrade from my current S10+ to the S21 Ultra. I did the calculation on Samsung.com, and I can get a Phantom Brown S21U and the silicone case with S-Pen for $798.98 (tax included) via trade-in. I've always sold my phones, so I don't know how the process works. Can someone explain, please?

I keep my phones in immaculate condition, and this one's no exception. It's like brand new after almost two years. But I'm wondering if I should just sell it on Swappa with accessories to maximize profit and get one new off of there instead of a trade in? I don't buy phones often, and since my birthday is next month, I'd like to treat myself. What should I do? Feedback is appreciated.

happy birthday

is totally your decision, swappa mercari ebay offer up take time and you have to pay fees, with trade in.. company will pay the real value of the device no the street price, so think about it, how it work is like you tell then you have the device to trade in and buy the new phone, when arrive you use the same package to send your device back , mint condition only matter to you.. is an old phone for samsung just make sure the phone work properly and more important record a video or something of the packaging because a lot of complaint about samsung saying nothing arrived on the box so be careful ,... done.

The three considerations are price, effort, and risk. The Samsung trade-in value is straightforward; to compare with Swappa, you have to estimate the purchase price and then account for fees and shipping. Samsung trade-in is much less work (but be sure to follow the instructions and to photograph everything before shipping). There are occasional reports of people being cheated in either venue, but for most of us there's no problem. I used to use Swappa, but lately the trade-in has been better and easier.

IMO trade in through Samsung... You are getting $450 for phone.. And save on taxes as you are charged taxes on lower price of new phone.. Also have you bought on Samsung before? If you set up new email though Samsung I'm sure you can get additional 5% off purchase first time buyer..

Usually you can sell your old flagship somewhere, for more than most trade in offers. But Samsung now usually offers trade in's for more than one could even sell it for. I just traded in my regular s20 for $700 from Samsung for the s21 Plus. No way I could sell the s20 for anything near $700.

So my s21 plus only cost $99. Talk about value for money.

I traded my S10+ for an S21+. Sammy gave me $550 trade-in allowance which was more than what I paid for it. But, they also threw in 4 months of YouTube and charged me California sales tax of $74 on the full retail price of the phone + YouTube. Net cost $323.99.
