I am coming from a BlackBerry where when I take it out of my holster it automatically wakes up (the screen turns on). Is there something similar on the Evo? Do I have to press the power button? Or maybe one of the capacitive buttons?
Thanks!

It should read our minds and know that we want to use it and bring up the app we want to use!!!

How does it wake up? well, if it's anything like the Hero it will hit the snooze button a couple times before falling out of bed and stumbling to the shower.

I've always used the standby button on my Blackberry to avoid pants pocket dialing anyways.

So does the power button on the Evo put it in a standby-like mode that can still recieve calls, emails, text or does the power button just shut it down??

Standby also does the most important thing, which is locking the screen, so that, as mentioned earlier, you aren't pocket dialing. If anything other than the physical power button brought the screen online, that would make it far too easy for pocket dialing.

No it doesn't have to read minds and neither would you pocket dial, if it would have the sensor that Blackberries have. It senses when it is the holster and it is then in standby mode. When you take it out it senses that as well and wakes up.
When I said it is a pain to have to press the button, I just meant that coming from a phone where I just take it from the holster to pressing a button is an adjustment.

It only senses the holster because of the magnet in it. The BBs have a magnetic sensor that senses the magnet in the holster, which is how it enters and exits standby when you pull it out.

When you receive a txt does the screen wake up? On windows mobile the phone comes out of standby and the screen turns on. On my BB the phone stays asleep and the led blinks. I seem to like the BB better because it saves battery power and reduces accidental pocket button pushes.

No, the phone does not come out of standby when a notification is received. The LED blinks only. This is by default, and can be changed in the settings.
