How does the iPhone X compare to the Note?

It's funny. I was an iPhone-or-nothing guy for half a decade and literally upgraded to every new phone Apple released. Coming from Sony Ericsson PDAs with stylus iPhones made them feel obsolete.

Then I got a Galaxy S6 edge as an experiment: a brief foray into android until Apple make a new design. One with smaller bezels.

Fast forward to last week and it finally arrived: the bezeless iPhone. And I couldn't care less. I watched the event with cash in hand and an open mind. Then when it finished I took my cash into the nearest Samsung store and pre-ordered my note 8.

Apple need needed something game-changing to bring me back into the walled garden. iPhone X is just catch-up with fanfare.

Apple is like the super popular kid who turns up to the house party at 1AM, kicks the door down, and yells: "let the drinking begin!" with a giant keg.

It's a helluva entrance, and a welcome addition. But damn son. We've got more beer than Budweiser and we've been partying since lunchtime!
Ahahaha love it.

I just want to add that when Apple coded the control center and notifications to be pulled from each corner, this forced the phone to be 2 handed.

Isn't there a lot of new functions added to the power button? Like Siri, and such? That is probably going to add a lot of wear and tear to a button that is already used multiple time per day, unless Apple has a method to force the device to sleep by tapping the screen?
Since we are comparing the Note 8 and iPhone X, does the Note 8 have a much easier way of pulling the notifications and control center down? The Note 8 isn't exactly a one handed device.

I really hope the Note 8 delivers. I was an iPhone only person until 2 years ago when I got a S6 edge Plus and went through several Androids, occasionally going back to an iPhone for brief periods. I had the Note 7 and planned on keeping that for a full cycle of 2 years. Then I had to turn it in. I have a 7 Plus and had that with some other Androids here and there. Anyway, I watched the iPhone event truly deciding between that and the Note 8. I ordered the Note 8 after the iPhone event was over. Apple just isn’t doing it anymore. I’m selling my 7 Plus and trading a G4 that I’ve held onto for the $425 off the N8. Those of you who have the Note 8, do you like it?

There's a thread here in the Note 8 forum asking people how they like the Note 8. Just look for it there.

I don't have my note 8 yet but I assume this is the same as the s8 plus. You can use finger print scanner to pull down the notification tray, you can triple tap the home button to get reachability, which I think the iphone X doesn't support anymore, and you can use a launcher like nova to pull down anywhere on the screen to pull down notifications.

Not specific to the Note 8, but Nova has a method to use a 'Nova Action' to pull down the notification shade and separate one for quick toggles. A solution requiring an additional app, but a solution. Could this be possible with the Apple? Not being sarcastic/snide....I don't have one to investigate myself.

Not quite. I'm talking a full blown device management desktop app that's identical to iTunes, but, ya know, for Google/Android.

Eh...sort of. Google has a program called Music Manager. But the UI is horrid. Looks like something the 90's vomited. And there is very little control. You can download all your new and purchased songs and your entire library. That's it. Google seems to have forgotten about this, as the Windows version is like I said, horrible and let's not even talk about the Linux version......

I don't understand how Apple users get so confused on Android. It's not like anyone is doing quantum mechanics when using Android.

It's very easy to be confused by something when you're used to doing them a different way. I'm fairly savvy when it comes to figuring out new tech, but when I got my first Android phone after like 6 years with iPhone, there was definitely a learning curve. It was very confusing and overwhelming at first.

For example: The app drawer alone blew my mind. I was used to only having apps on my home screen with Apple and using folders to keep them organized. Thought the app drawer served no purpose other than to be redundant. Then I learned that I could organize all the apps in the drawer into folders to free up clutter on my home screen, which I now love. But the week or so it took me to figure that out was very frustrating.

On the flip side, I've been on Android for 4 years now while my g/f has remainined with Apple and her phone confuses me almost as much as Android did when I first switched.

Yeah, I use it on my Mac to sync my iTunes library with Play Music, but that's all it's good for.

ITunes is a full blown device manager in addition to being a music store.

The iPhone X is a big leap forward for Apple. However, it still has drawbacks for me personally. First, the horns on the front of the screen where the sensors and camera are located. It would bug the hell out of me while watching a video or looking at photos to always have that area covering up part of my video or pictures while having the phone sideways.
Second, no Touch ID. After watching the announcement and seeing this new Face ID fail twice, it is a bad sign. Of course, people are also going to try to spoof it once the phone is released. Apple should have put the touch id sensor in the back.

I just installed the apk that allows me to pull down the notification shade from anywhere on the screen with a swipe down gesture so that resolves that issue.

there is no comparison. you get so much more for your money with the N8. apple keeps raising the price and taking features away. now no finger print sensor. you literally have 7 security options to unlock a N8. but you can pay 1200$ for the iPhone x to turn yourself into a talking **** 💩 at least. now that's courageous and innovative...

It's a personal choice... Some people find everything need in iphone. We Android users prefer more options. It doesn't make us better or smarter. It just means we prefer other options.

Agreed. But if you want to sample the crazies read AppleInsider.

Note 8,is better this is easy I frankly don't understand all the iPhone post on a note 8 forum . sounds like we have a lot of closet imore fans then we think

I have more friends who have converted to android from apple than the other way around.
But...with that said, there are some diehard Apple fans that will stand by them to the bitter end and they will drink the kool-aid and kid themselves in believing stuff such as, the fact the X is the newest and only phone with face recognition... And then there are the rest of us who know better ;)

I have never been a fan of Apple Products and I never will be.

The thing that people don’t understand is Apple has turned their phone into a status symbol. Android can’t do that, people look on android as the common man’s phone. Even though that’s not correct that’s the common misconception. Therefore Apple will always be very popular. I know people who have Amazing android phones and still want iPhones when they’re surrounded by people with them.

I've moved this thread to the Phone Wars forum, since it is a direct comparison of two devices.

After having my Note sitting on my desk for last 3 weeks I finally moved my SIM from my iPhone and going through getting it sorted out. I honestly like both platforms. There are pros and cons to each. I'll leave it at that lol.

The X phone is like Apple's version of the Note 8 without the S pen. i.e. what's the point? Apple doesn't innovate they imitate. They make a mean SOC but that about it. 😊
