How does wifiwork?

I have Wi-Fi turned on and I'm connected to my network. But when I move out of range of the bluetooth connection to my phone, I still get the cloud with the line through it indicating I am not connected.

I would think that my watch's wi-fi would connect to my phone via Wi-Fi. I thought this watch/the latest android wear did that - not only if they're on the same network but even if they were on different networks.

Am I missing something? Thanks.

I just tested mine, and it disappeared. Have you tried resetting your watch?

I'm not sure what you mean, it disappeared. Do you mean when you moved out of range of Bluetooth that you connected by Wi-Fi? And got notifications?

I have not reset my watch however I have rebooted it various times. If I reset it will I have to reinstall all the software?

Thanks.

My watch stays connected throughout the house. I agree that something is not right.

Golf driver has a good suggestion. First resync the watch and then restart it.

Sorry. I connected only to wifi, and my cloud icon disappeared. I was never connected to my phone via bluetooth.

Yes I can connect via Wi-Fi too, but I was thinking the watch would automatically sync with my phone and I wouldn't manually have to connect.

Once I had established and copied over the credentials for that particular network, I thought it would automatically connect if it became disconnected from my bluetooth.

Now I'm just a little confused on how it works.

I have resync'd and restarted it a number of times. It does connect to Wi-Fi.

It's just that when I am away from my bluetooth connection, it doesn't seem to connect to my phone via wi-fi.

I can hear a message come in on my phone in another part of the house, but my watch does not show the notification. That tells me that it is not syncing with my account unless the BT connection is working.

Too bad there's no documentation on this.

Found this maybe it'll help.

I had not seen that - thanks. I have it set up like that with Cloud sync enabled and Wi-Fi set to automatic.

But I did a little digging and found it did work, albeit a little clunky. It's got me wondering how often it checks for notifications. About 10 minutes after I heard a notification on my phone elsewhere in the house, I opened Settings>Wi-Fi on my watch to verify it was connected. It was, and a split second later the notification showed up - even though I was out of BT range. So it was like it didn't check until I woke up the watch.

I wish I knew more about how often it checks or notifications are pushed. But it seems like it - sort of - works.

This is disturbing.

Any more info on this? I just got the Moto360v2 and I'd hate to think it was only made for people who live in a studio apartment. I sometimes like to charge my phone in my bedroom and then walk to the other side of my two-bedroom mansion to watch tv. Is the lower middle class excluded from receiving notifications from their phones via wi-fi when out of bluetooth range?

FYI: both Samsung Gears (on Tizen) do this!

I'm no expert in any of this, but when I leave my phone upstairs and I'm out of Bluetooth range my watch still gets notifications from the WiFi connection. Sometimes it takes a while to make the WiFi connection but as far as I've noticed it works fine.

I noticed this too but I wasn't sure if the bluetooth connectivity was varying as I walked around the kitchen. Hopefully, someone can confirm this soon.

Jeff, I'm sorry I think I'm getting confused. What was your watch doing as you walked around your kitchen?

So, no confirmation of any of this yet? Again, we need to know if Android Wear devices are capable of using wi-fi to route notifications to our phones when they are out of bluetooth range.

With my note 5 it doesn't work. I just returned my moto 360 and got another one and still exactly the same problem. "Okay Google" works fine when you're with within Bluetooth range but if you move out of Bluetooth range and even though you're connected the same Wi-Fi network it doesn't connect

Can't you just turn off your Bluetooth and send your self a text to see if the wach receives the notifications via WiFi?

Of course, and it works for me when I turn off bluetooth, but that's a bit ridiculous and you will have to be constantly turning Bluetooth off and on to use any other devices or to use your watch when you aren't on WiFi

Yeah I didn't mean to turn off Bluetooth every time I was just wondering if you had shut it off and checked to see if the WiFi was working . I have a question, how does one kbkw when they are out of Bluetooth range will the watch show it? I've just assumed many times I was out of range and my WiFi was working but mabey I was still in range
