How honest are you?

I to have been with Verizon when cell phones were in a bag & if you called out if your area code you were roaming..

That being said, when Verizon had the 30 day exchange you could only do today ONE time & no restocking fee..,I have returned a phone with in the 30 day mark to get a different one, not cuz there was a newer one but cuz there were known issues that Verizon didn't tell me about... Anyway, I haven't used the 14 day but would if needed...

Just to be clear, the 1-year warranty is for phones with manufacturer defects. The 14 day return policy (was 30) is the worry free guarantee and is designed specifically to be used for no-questions-asked, not happy with the phone or not happy with the contract issues. Asking for a different phone within the 14 days is totally acceptable. That's the way it is designed. It is in place specifically to allow you to change types of phones if you are not happy in any way. Totally different thing than dealing with a defective phone. Defective phones are warranty items or insurance items, depending on exactly how they became defective (i.e. from the manufacturer verses you dropped it off of a 4th story balcony in Vegas when you were too drunk to talk). :D

I know. But there are people who take advantage of it. The phone they want isn't released. So they get a phone just to have a new one and return for the one they want
Soon no one will be able to do that. I know someone who had gotten a phone. Turned out to be defective. Wanted to upgrade recently and told couldn't cause had used the upgrade. Had to prove the phone was defective. Got the paperwork. And they will now allow the upgrade

So if anyone thinks they can use the upgrade and then swipe out may have issues. With the new policies and no rebates things are changing

Verizon is the worst at remembering if you used your upgrade or not. My friend brought activated a new line on an off-contract phone so they could get the phone they actually wanted when it came out (One of the few I guess ;)) But, when they went back to the Verizon store a month later to use their upgrade, the rep said that they had already used their upgrade when they activated... It took a talk to their supervisor and about 30 minutes, but they finally figured out we had an upgrade available.

Hopefully your friend can get it figured out!

Would you take a new phone that you really don't want just to have a new phone and if in the grace period you can return it, would you return it and get the phone you really want?

And if you are one of those who does this, why can't you just wait till the phone you want is released?

Personally, I think this is very wrong to do and if people continue to do this, we will lose more with Verizon.
I have been with Verizon for many years, even before the company was known as Verizon...so that says a lot for my loyalty to such a good company for their service and their product.

Verizon used to give their customers 30 days to try out a phone. People really took advantage of this and unfortunately now we have only 14 days. Eventually, it wouldn't surprise me if they take this away if people continue doing the obvious. It is a policy for legitimate reasons to trade, not just cause a person wants a new phone while waiting for the ONE they really want. And then argue the 35.00 restocking fee.

As a retailer, I certainly don't like seeing this happen in any form of selling. I saw it many times when in the wireless industry and I see it in other retail areas as well. It wastes a lot of money and it causes the retailer to damage out and/or throw out the product. When this happens with cosmetics, the product can't be resold. It is a sheer waste of money. And the customer wonders why prices skyrocket.

We need to be mindful of what we do and how we spend our money. And deliberately getting a phone knowing all the while you are going to return it is really wrong and unethical. This isn't teaching young people to be responsible. This is a form of cheating.

I don't really see how this is cheating or being dishonest. Wasteful, perhaps. The terms of your contract are agreed to by both parties. Verizon does not put conditions on your return. They charge you for usage and $35 to return the device. If they agree to it that's fine. I find it no more dishonest than the exorbitant rates charged for sms messages. More curious is the fact that our phones are subsidized by Verizon by our contract rate and term. At the end of your contract, does your rate go down? No, no it doesnt. Yet you still pay the bill. We pay sms fees, extra to tether (using the same data), our non-subsidized phones are overcharged and yet I pay my monthly bill as contracted. If a person decides to hold Verizon to a 14 return period that has no real conditions, this hardly seems dishonest. Also, looking at the price of refurbished phones on the Verizon website, I find it difficult to believe they lose $300 on a returned phone. My polite $.02.
 
I don't consider my actions dishonest as I told the manager what my intent was.
I slammed my S2 in my tailgate, no insurance. Can't afford to replace it until the 3rd of Dec. Needed any cheap phone to get me by. The manager admonished me, was very firm about the $50 re-stock fee when the time comes.
I will return this phone in perfect condition, pay the fee, and plop down $600 for the phone I really want.
The $50 is highway robbery, the manager was a dick.

I just returned my Rezound & I really don't plan to get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Some of the problems with it are now surfacing. I could have sold the Rezound for more than $500 on Ebay & pocketed $180 .... But I didn't. I am through trying phones to replace my Thunderbolt ..... Had 5 Bolts (still have #4), 1 Bionic & now the Rezound. All in all, I think Verizon has been very good to me, but this last time the Customer service person was a total B .... so I said fine & I sent it back :(

I would say I am honest :)
