How hot/warm is the Edge suppose to be?

I received my S6 Edge in the mail yesterday and quickly became concerned with how hot it became. When I turn it on, the back immediately starts to heat up. This occurs in the back near the power button and near the camera. It cools down when I'm not using it but immediately starts to heat up when I start it up again. I've tried closing all apps but it still runs warm. It's not uncomfortable, I'm just wondering if it's normal bc many of the reviews I read commended the device for NOT heating up at all when mine stays relatively warm the whole time. I called T mobile and they said this was normal. Does anyone else experience this or am I just being paranoid?

Also, this is my first time with a new smartphone in a very long time. My last phone didn't heat up so easily so I'm wondering if this is a defected phone or merely a condition for new phones.

Just got mine today as well. It was warm during the setup but since has cooled down. I don't think it'll be an issue.

During setup, heavy downloading, and during charging cycles it will heat up. Most other times it is cooler than the other side of the pillow.

Well hey there. Let me tell you my story! I got my new edge on march 31. Your post describes my experience exactly. The day I set it up it got so hot, the metal edges were nearly burning my fingers. I kept letting it cool and it kept getting really hot right away. For the next few days, it would run warm most of the time, then once a day, out of nowhere, it would get incredibly hot. I was very concerned, and I also started a thread on this forum to see if anyone else was experiencing this (I got a variety of responses, but no one seemed to be having exactly my experience). After the first week or so, the "overheating once a day" thing stopped. It has overheated once in the last week, a few days ago. It gets warm, mind you, but not hot. Please post again how things are going, I'm curious!

Mine got warm on the initial boot out of the box (logging in with my Google account and downloading all of the apps), but it wasn't anything I hadn't already experienced with my Nexus 5. Warm, but not hot. I've also noticed when on a Qi wireless charging pad, it gets a little warm. I don't experience this on the quick charger, though. AT&T 32gb version.

Well it's definitely nice to know I'm not the only one. When I set my phone up, the edges felt on fire too. It does randomly start get warm without much use too. I tried calling T-Mobile about it to see if it was defected but the guy assured me it's normal. He even said his sister has one and had the same effect. This doesn't have any effect on the phone itself though. I can't spot any battery drainage or performance stutter. I took the advice from another user and bought a case. I bought the Galaxy S6 Edge Case, Spigen [CURVED BUMPER] Neo Hybrid Series Case for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge - Gunmetal (SGP11422). It's pretty pricey but I can't notice the heat anymore. I've also tried to see if others have similar experiences but haven't found many. Hopefully it'll get better with time.

Just because you can't feel the heat doesn't mean it's not there!

Are you having any issues with the screen rotation?

There is a theory going around that heat is toasting the accelerometer inside these puppies. I just received my tracking number a few minutes ago and wonder how pervasive the rotation/heat issue really is?

OK an update from me: After my post above, I had a couple more episodes of the phone getting ridiculously hot very quickly when it had been sitting doing nothing for two hours and all I did was open facebook or some other not-that-demanding app. I decided to ship my phone back and walk into my local t mobile store and buy myself a brand new phone. I did this on Monday, and I'm glad I did. The new phone got hot during setup (which I expected) then has been warm but not hot since then (except once when I was messing around with the camera and display settings quite a bit). This is different from my experience from the first phone, which burned my fingers pretty much the whole first three days no matter what I was doing.

I'd like to mention to the last poster that my "hot phone" did NOT have any issue with rotation, or any other issue whatsoever. Battery life was great. I don't think the "heat" issue is much of an issue for most people; I really couldn't find anyone who's phone was heating up as bad as mine. Most people say what I am experiencing now: it gets warm, but not uncomfortably hot. One thing I did with new phone: I set it up pretty slowly. I didn't let it get super hot, when it started to get hot I turned off the screen and went and did something else for a while, then came back to it. I don't know if I really needed to do this, but I just have this feeling that a phone that's hot for hours is not a great idea!

I haven't had any issues with the screen rotation. I even did the whole "Dial *#0*# on phone..." thing. The rotation seems fine and everything else does too. I've had the phone now for a week and for the exception of a few hot moments, it has been running fine.
