how important of a feature is wireless charging to you?

Re: how important of a feature is wireless charging to you

When I first heard about wireless charging I wasn't terribly impressed. So I didn't rush out and get one with my N5 -- I waited until I got a good deal on one that was well reviewed. But after using it just a few days I was hooked -- I'd never go back.

When I got my 2013, N7 I felt like it was just a novelty/gimmicky thing... and after I started using it I was really hooked on it... I wouldn't call it a deal killer. Only way I'd consider it a deal killer is if the phone I was looking at wasn't a dramatic upgrade over my current device.... Like I passed on the 2014 Moto X vs my Nexus 5 because of wireless charging.. On paper the new Moto X is just a slight upgrade over the Nexus 5.. 801 vs 800 processor.. both are just 1080p screens... 5.2 vs 4.95.... and so on.... But I darn sure would have missed it.....

Ya I could really care or less about wireless charding at this point in time. Car charger seems slow enough let a lone a wireless charger. I plug mine in at night and it's good to go in the morning!!!

Same here. My G3 lasts all day and I plug it in at night when going to bed. No need for Qi or any other wireless charging system.

Re: how important of a feature is wireless charging to you

I can live with it and I can live without it. I've been using the wireless charging orb at work with the Nexus 4, then the Nexus 5 and the Note 3. I only put a phone on the charger if the battery is below 50%, though. I'm not a continuous phone charger. I'll definitely buy a phone that doesn't have it; it's not on my list of desired features but it is nice if it's there.

Re: how important of a feature is wireless charging to you

I like the idea of having a wireless charger that props the phone up and keep it on a nightstand. I use mine as my alarm clock. The slower charging wouldnt be an issue as it would have all night to charge. Plus if I ever had a call or something during the night I wouldn't have to fiddle with plugging the cable back in or unplugging it when I grab the phone when the alarm goes off. It's totally a convenience thing.

I'm looking at getting one of these if they go on sale (based on recommendations from another thread):

TYLT • VU • Wireless Charger

I got 3 of them.... Awesome chargers... I got the first one at full price and the other 2 on their Black Friday online sale....

Re: how important of a feature is wireless charging to you

I have never used it, so to me it is not that big of a feature. Now with that being said, I may use it and love it and it become a very important factor to me. Only time will tell.

Re: how important of a feature is wireless charging to you

I'm hoping that they TYLT has another sale this holiday season; I'm looking to score one with the Nexus 6 being my first Qi phone. As someone else also mentioned, I'd like to use it as a clock/bedside/desk stand as well.

I'm surprised that wireless charging isn't more popular, considering that a good majority of current Android phones support it (See here). The new Turbo also supports it. Unfortunately the HTC One M8 and both the 2013 and 2014 Moto X's don't.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple puts it in their next iPhone 6 iteration (6S?) next year, claims it's this new amazing technology, and then it explodes into popularity.

Re: how important of a feature is wireless charging to you

It is pretty much a deal breaker for me if it does not have it. I don't understand why all phones don't come with it. Again just my opinion. It is so nice to just set it down at my desk or night stand at night and know it will be ready to roll and not have to worry about cables all over the place.

It's a little slower to charge and you have to go buy a new charger... there also are two different types of wireless charging.. Qi seems to be the market leader but there is a competing technology.... Google is invested in the Qi standard thus it's on the Nexus phones... I think if you wanted to see a more mainstream adoption someone like Samsung would have to have it on every phone they sell and package the devices with a really good Qi charging pad/station.....

I love it and TYLT is a great charger... I give it two thumbs up and always recommend it if you don't mind spending a little extra... You would be disappointed even if you pay the $70 for it...

I consider it to just be a convenience since it takes longer to charge compared to a regular charger. Perhaps in the future I would consider it to be more of a necessity.

Deal breaker for me, been using it since the Palm Pre, N4, and currently N5. You don't realize how great it is until you use it. My car also came with a built in wireless charging pad. I just can't imagine going back to the days of plugging in a USB, it seems so luddite.

Samsung does have Qi charging on its phone, but it's not marketed well enough. Packaging a qi charger with all their devices would be a great way to make it mainstream, but would be pretty costly. There just needs to be a bigger general Android marketing push about wireless charging for it to grow big.

Or wait for Apple to announce it, then we'll have hundreds of wireless charging options and have it built into everywhere, heh.

Re: how important of a feature is wireless charging to you

Long story short when we switched to T-mobile earlier this year, my Wife got a Note 3 and I got a Nexus 5. After using the Nexus for a while I was genuinely torn on whether I would want the next Nexus phone or the Next Moto X. When the Moto X was announced without wireless charging I was a little bummed but not surprised. However when I found out that the Nexus 6 was basically a Giant Moto X with wireless charging I was definitely leaning towards picking one up.

This is what I don't get. The Moto X (2014) doesn't have it, but yet the Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo, both Motorola phones do have it?!? Makes 0 sense to me?!?

Does the Note 4?

Which Samsung phones? I had the GS3 and I know the GS4 and Note 3 didn't come with it built into the device... You had to buy a kit with a new back...... It doesn't come standard on any Samsung phone I am aware of???

Wireless charging is the tits!!!! I have not used the micro usb port on my N5 expect to connect it to my computer to offload or onload files. So I don't worry about it becoming loose or messed up or worried about something breaking off in there...

Well said! :)

I would bet once you have used wireless charging you will never want to own a device that doesn't have it again. Its ridiculous that all smart phones these days don't have WC built in.

It is. All smart phones today should have wireless charging. It should be as standard as WiFi IMO.

Ahh, my mistake, they don't natively. Instead Samsung sells these back covers that enable the phones to have wireless charging. Initial Google searching brought up that they do have it, when in fact they don't.

Since they have these backs already, not sure why Samsung doesn't just make all its phones natively with wireless charging.

Yeah I don't think it is standard at that is a shame. Making people buy a kit and change the back just to have WC? That's ludicrous for an option that should be standard at this point. Once all these naysayers try WC they will most definitely agree I think.

I didn't think so but the last two devices I checked on were the GS4 and Note 3..... Wasn't sure about the GS5 or Note 4 or Note 4 Edge.... Samsung would be the perfect company to make it more popular.. If it was added in from the start right out the box.. I think with the GS4 there were rumors it would but ended up not...

Or Apple.... If the iPhone added it people would start claiming it was ground breaking technology... lol....
