How does the reception on the Thunderbolt on 3G compare to the Motorola phones on the Verizon network? And I don't mean bars but -db values.

Depends on how close you are to the tower. Also, I haven't known Motorola phones to be especially good for reception since a long long time ago. Startac comes to mind.

Funny. Yes. Used to have the Startac. Back then, the smaller the phone the better.
