I am in the Chicago area and switched from a Maxx with VZW to the S3 with ATT. The maxx would lose 4g and go to slow 3g or worse, voice only in many areas(yes I did go through many warranty replacements). With the s3, this phone hasnt dropped 1 call or dropped out of 4g anywhere, only LTE has been lost in some places. Does this mean this phone reception is better than the maxx or is it that ATT is better than Verizon?

Att has superior service in parts of my county... where Verizon has better service in others.. it could be that att invested more in the infrastructure in your own than vzw did...

Bro in Illinois att is the best and T-Mobile is even better than Verizon here. & I have Verizon currently! It's bull that everywhere I go T-Mobile or always has better service

Well in downtown Chicago by the loop Verizon is horrible. Poor voice and data connections. AT&T likes to show full signal with 4G, tends to not actually have a data connection. it has gotten better with LTE (even if the relative speeds are low compared to other areas on LTE), plus the voice quality has been fairly good for me.

Tmobile is definitely not better than Verizon, and AT&T is only better than Verizon in the city. (and thats only because of all of the network changes made with the LTE rollout)

I can say that sprint is real good all around Chicago downtown too I have full wimax bars there too

what part of the country are you in?

Thanks for the replies. I have friends that have/ had att and they have/had issues with dropped calls and poor call quality.

Yeah CDMA is better for calls but has poor 3g performance. Gem has waaaay better speeds then CDMA but tends to drop calls. So it just depends on what u do.

Being on AT&T all of these years with the iPhone, and now the S III, I think the misconception was always that AT&T had horrible service(Due to the overwhelming strain of the iPhone). However here in Houston, Texas the service has been second to none. LTE on the S III here just flat out SMOKES, it's quite awesome really.

GSM phones drop calls more often because GSM doesn't hand off calls between towers as efficiently as CDMA. I live in Washington, DC, and the LTE is so fast it's nuts.

I used to laugh at AT&T's "4G" (not LTE), but I actually like it now. When you're in an area that will never get LTE, you can at least get HSPA+. On Verizon, you're stuck with 3G only. That's why Verizon has the aggressive roll-out strategy for LTE (which is really impressive).

How is your service for voice with ATT? In buildings? What about around the DC area? How is Verizon out there?

AT&T works much better indoors than Verizon. DC area has some dead zones, esp a few on 66. Verizon is pretty good. They have a big headquarters at Dulles. It'd be embarrassing if they had crappy coverage.

I'm in Suffolk county, ny
I'm on long island pretty much the suburbs of. NYC

In my opinion it's the antennas that the iPhone have... I've been at concerts where blackberries connected while my old iPhone didn't. Same network.

South Florida here. ATT smokes VZ around here. Better signal inside and out. Less dropped calls than VZ, better battery life when comp on identical IPhones or SGS3.

In San Diego, at my house, my office, and where I play ATT is much better than VZN, and the LTE is faster than cable modem. Much faster. I also get simultaneous data and voice (which I use a lot) without needing LTE. Also, the radio on my S3 is better by far than any other device I've owned, including 3 Blackberries, pulling in signal just about everywhere.

S3 is Awful awful awful wifi and cellular reception. Best yet was older phones like lg and blackberry. Efforts taken away from care of antennas. Manufactures Know the bulk of their customers live in cities plastered with cell towers so they cut antennas down to nothing.

Soo true!!! But what are you gonna do? These older companies are falling behind

As a rule of thumb I like att better than Verizon. But like others have said its all about where you live. Where I live they are about the same. But Verizon has LTE where as att does not. To me personally LTE isn't a selling point. Not yet anyways. But I do get HSPA+ with 6+ megs down on a pretty normal bases. That is good enough for me and also its cheaper! BUT anything is better than Sprints current network! So be lucky your not on the later network!
