How is unlocking Moto X bootloader different between Developer and Carrier editions?

On those two, the differences are going to be cosmetic other than the 32GB vs 16GB internal storage and where updates come from. In terms of the bootloader, no difference that I'm aware of. The real advantage of the bootloader unlock process will be contrasted with the AT&T carrier or Moto Maker versions and the Verizon version, which do not support unlocking the bootloader, and if accomplished at all, will be done via hacking the device.

I am comparing the T-Mobile Version with the Developer Edition.

Is the procedure for unlocking both of these bootloaders the same--go to the Motorola website and follow the procedure? Can the Developer Edition be unlocked within the device itself but the T-Mobile version has to go to the website? I'm looking for clarification in any differences between HOW one unlocks the bootloader of each edition. What is special about the Developer Edition's bootloader?

Yes, the procedure is the same for both phones.

No, the developer edition cannot be unlocked within the device. You still have to go to the site and get the code and follow the procedure.

What's special about the DE is that it can be unlocked. You are on T-Mobile so there isn't a difference because T-Mobile's boot loader is unlockable and T-Mobile does have a "carrier edition" per say. People on verizon and at&t's carrier edition can't so the have to buy the developer edition if they want an unlock-able boot loader.
