How limited are the watch face options for Tizen OS?

AC Question

Hi,

I used a Huawei for a few weeks but with an Iphone so faces could not be downloaded.

Now I have a Samsung S6. I like the Gear S2 Classic features a little more than the Huawei, but am concerned that the faces available by third parties for the Tizen OS might be much more limited than AW. e.g. sports teams, configurable elements on the face, configurable background colors.

What are your thoughts? What are some good Tizen watch face sites to search?

Thanks,

Rich

The watch faces are going to be pretty limited in the Tizen watch. There are just not a lot of Devs for Tizen. AW seems to be where they are all at.

Ha, no doubt. If anything, watch faces are what Tizen has in abundance.

There's a decent amount, but I wouldn't say an abundance. OP was questioning the possibility of a sports team; I just tried searching 4 different rather large teams spanning the NBA, NFL X2, and NCAA and none of them had faces for them.

Just bought the s2 and I'm not impressed at all in the stock faces, or the watch itself for that matter. The watch faces are minimal, and not very "customizable" even when using a watch make app like Mr.TimeMaker. They are limited at best, Imo. I'm also not impressed with the watch as it really does rely on Samsung's proprietary apps, ie. Music app and SHealth.
Also, I believed there was a sleep tracker, but it ends up you need to buy a separate 3td party app as S2 doesn't incorporate that into SHealth.

I'm a noodler when it comes to Android, and I use 3rd party apps, and Google's apps for most of my daily drivers. Having to use Samsung's apps just isn't what I'm looking for.

I'm amazed to hear someone say there isn't an abundance of watch faces for the S2. I blew over an hour just LOOKING AT the available watchfaces!

How many do you need? :)

Anybody making and selling watch faces with team logos on them is guaranteed to hear from that team's lawyers.

I'd say there is an abundance of watch faces out there, most of them way ugly. Knowing how to create a watch face certainly doesn't mean you have good graphic taste.

I agree. Most look fast made/ poorly made/ or no taste in design.

There's a fair amount of watchfaces and more coming every week. A lot of them are of poor quality (think the same can be said for a lot of AW faces) but they are improving. Over the past month there's been a trend of faces with more shortcuts and complications on the faces. Seems the dev tools have improved. Don't expect too many "official" faces if you're looking for sports teams. If I want a sports team I make it myself with the Mr. Time maker app.

I've noticed your work, sir, and it is excellent.

I guess I'm just not impressed with most. Let me rephrase, there isn't an abundance of faces I find useable. To each their own.

With the GWD program, people are turning out amazing watch faces. I have designers I go to often. In the store they are under Gear O'clock and CWF. Check them out. Also head over to the forumhttps://plus.google.com/communities/111224177903657805607/stream/5e5c2642-4d33-4220-9afd-e88af11bedc8.

Are they just in the Samsung gear app store for watch faces then?

The watchfaces are available through the Samsung Appstore.
I'm a watchface hog and have bought well over 50+ (for my Gear S). There are at LEAST 5 or 6 really talented designers out there, churning them out on a regular basis. For those not willing to spend .99 or $1.00, the selection is lacking. Many of the paid ones are excellent IMHO.

Here are a few of mine...they are in the Store or available from the link in my previous post. Most change color, have animation, night mode and an "always on" face.

Looks like a lot of choices coming from the apple watch. If you think this doesn't have very many faces try an apple watch. Thanks for the information everyone. Although the OS is new and somewhat limited with applications it looks like it has a lot of good things going for it.

Thanks for the information. :)

After spending a bunch of time looking, I'm finding a few acceptable faces. Unfortunately, it seems even with the ones I like, I always find something I wish was different. Bought one face for 2$ and though I really like the face the charging clock is super annoying, and the always on clock is too much.

I'm slowly warming up to this watch, and have a few more days before I'll need to decide if I'm returning it.

I think my frustration also lingers with apps like Myfitnesspal and Google fit having no integration at all with S Health.

I'm finding workarounds for other apps like DoubleTwist.. Etc.

Thanks for the assistance on the faces!

As a follow up, I'm now looking into GWD as a designer. We'll see how hard it is for my discriminating eyes to develop what I'm looking for.
