How long does it take for a Samsung 8+ Android phone to update?

[Android Central Question]

My phone began updating at 11:59 pm Saturday night. Received message that update was successful. Yet, it has been finalizing update all day. It is now 7:40 pm Sunday and it is still finalizing the update with the message "Please wait..."

if restarting the phone does not help, try doing a power cycle on the router.

What does he router have to do with anything? it downloaded the update already. It updated. It's redoing Android - internally to the phone.

A restart may make it start normally, but if there are a few hundred apps, it could take hours to update them all (they may be going from compiled to JIT).

sometimes one device may not have a good connection and the phone will still call home during the updating process. It is still a valid suggestion.

It's not clear from the OP if the "Finalizing" is a fullscreen message without the option of doing anything else on the phone, or if it says "Finalizing" in the status bar while being able to use the phone normally. When an Android update is finalizing, it's usually rebooted and installed the update already, and is finishing up things in the background.
