How long does Samsung support their Galaxy tablets software update?

It seems to me like people just prefer the idea of the latest update, but when they really think about it, not seeing much practical difference.

Some of us don't want to run a device with dozens of known security vulnerabilities. I access my bank via my phone, and buy things through Amazon, access my Google Drive, etc.

Hmmm... Evidence?

The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 was released in 2014 and was never updated.
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 was released in 2014 and got one update, to Android 5.0.2.
The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 was released in 2015 and is getting one update to Android 6.0.1. Chances are it won't get another one.

So they may support some of their high-end phones, but they don't support their tablets. I have a Tab Pro 8.4 with CM12 and it, and it's excellent, so I'm not super worried about it. I do need to upgrade to CM13. Wish they were better about pushing out release builds.

Technically the Tab S2 will get TWO updates. It got the security update just a month or so ago to 5.1.1, then it will get updated to Marshmallow (v6.x).

The security update that was released was done by GOOGLE and then released to OEMs to then create builds and update their respective devices. Samsung sent out the security update its devices within a few of weeks after Google sent it to them.

If the Tab S2 doesn't get another major OS update (i.e. v7) it will be because the new OS will be released to the OEMs after the Tab S2's EOL has expired. Like I said previously, life cycles are generally two years.

You are comparing a major OS version update to a bug fix/security update. They are two completely different types of software updates.

I do the same thing with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. In the last 2 months, it has gotten the security update the exact same week that Nexus devices have.

Picked up a second hand Galaxy Tab S2 on ebay at the weekend, never had a Samsung device before but this seems pretty good. Was also quite pleased to see a Marshmallow update come through a few hours ago so it's now running 6.01

First off! Good choice! You won't be disappointed. It's a snappy tablet.

Second! You're Tab S2 got updated??? Which version; 8" or 9.7"? Are you in the US?

Hi, I'm in The UK with the 8 inch wifi

Ah! That explains it. The UK is getting the Marshmallow update. We're (well most of us anyway) are patiently waiting for our Tab S2s to get updated here in the US.

Congrats! And let us know how it's working for you.
