How long doest it take for a full charge?

If your battery is at less than 10%, how long does it take to fully charge?

Just got my E4GT and the first full charge is taking a long time.

3 1/2 hrs on up. If you are using it while charging it will take a lot longer.

Back in the olden days they said to completely charge devices before using them, with the risk being that battery won't have as good of a charge throughout its life. Is this still true? Will using it as soon as I get it out of the box and connected to an outlet hurt the batter in the long-term?

Nope. Just use it. Never had any problem.

It does take a long time to charge to a full 100%. And the last 1% takes really long too I noticed. I read or heard somewhere that Samsung is known for it's long charge times. I just timed it today and it took me around 2 hours and 35 minutes hours to go from 15% to 100%. My EVO 4G used to take maybe 2 hours and 10 minutes and this is with 1800 mAh rated spare batteries.
