Lots of people say that with new phones, it takes a couple charges and days for the battery to settle in and be more representative of actual use. For those with HTC One M9s, how long did it take for yours to settle in? I got an M9 yesterday. I charged it over night so today is the first full day of use. When the screen is off, it is barely sipping battery but when the screen is on, it goes pretty quickly.
I also thought I would share some initial thought on the M9. I have used Android, iPhone, and Windows phones regularly so this is not my first Android. I actually bought this phone because I've been using an iPhone and I just couldn't help but think the amount I am paying for this phone is not worth it. I don't just think that about iPhone. I think all flagships $600+ is a little ridiculous. So I saw a new AT&T M9 that was not an Uh Oh replacement for $299 so I thought I would give it a go. I followed the instructions on XDA and converted it to the developers edition, which removed about 20 bloatware apps. Here are my initial thoughts:
- It ran really hot until I updated to 5.1. Ever since, it has not gotten hot. It has gotten a little bit warm at times, but not hot like it did.
- Haven't used the camera much but in the couple times I looked at it, it seems a little slow and the quality is still lacking.
- Build quality is really nice. I have the silver with gold around the side and it looks awesome. In comparison to my work phone, which is an HTC One M8 Windows edition, I like the look of the M9 more; however, the M9 feels noticeably thicker to me than the M8. Because of that, I prefer the feel of the M8 in my hand.
- The screen confuses me. Sometimes I look at it and it looks really good and sometimes it looks really bad for a 1080p screen. I think the M8 screen is better. I think part of the problem is that it isn't as bright as some screens. Auto brightness works terribly so it depends on the lighting on whether it looks good or not.
- The phone is really fast. I don't see stutter or lag. It handles things really well. The 810 might be controversial because of heating but it is a really fast chip.
- While I prefer stock android, Sense 7 isn't that different.
- Motion launcher (tap to wake/sleep) works every time for me when I turn on the screen but I can't get it to work to turn off the screen.
- Best audio on a phone.
- Love having a micro-SD slot.
In my opinion, I would not pay $500+ for the M9. At $299, I think it is a better choice than the other phones going at that price.
