So once Gingerbread is released...
How Long do you think it will be before HTC sends it to our EVO'S?

I'm thinking/hoping maybe before Christmas Eve.

What do you all think?

my best guess is that it will be approximately the same time length that was between Froyo's official release and its push to the EVO. if i recall it was relatively quick - maybe 1-2 months? HTC and Sprint have to get it first and work their magic and pass their blessings. my guess is that they already have an advance copy of Gingerbread (or a beta version) which will allow for a quick push to us.

Riddle me this...what the bell is Gingerbread, really? What is the advantage of the update? I've seen some of the Supposed screen shots and it doesn't look as cool. Looks kind of squared off and not as mainstreamed.

I have the same question. Not sure what it is supposed to bring that will make a difference to me.

I think the question we should be asking is IF the EVO will even get Gingerbread. I would hope so, but you never know if HTC and Sprint decide not to update the EVO anymore. Time will tell and hopefully HTC and Sprint will release a statement that the EVO will get the update sooner or later.

Why wouldn't they? It wouldn't make sense if they didn't.

Well first of all the gingerbread that gets pushed will not look like stock gingerbread anyways, as HTC sense will be all up in it. But at least you get all the performance boosts and stuff.

Evo will get gingerbread, whether its through sprint or (for me at least) cyanogen mod.

Ill guess late january, early feb stock evo owners will have 2.3
But ill be rocking it relatively quick with cyanogen mod :D

Just some advice to people. Updates don't always mean big and flashy stuff. I remember so many people complained about 2.2 and being disappointed because everything looked the same. In reality the differences between 2.1 and 2.2 were pretty significant. So when 2.3 comes to your EVO while I'm sure there will be visual differences, don't expect holograms to start popping out of your screen or your phone to look like it came out of the Minority Report.

someone correct me if i'm wrong but i think the big thing is some slight visual changes and that the ui is now hardware accelerated.

I think it will be 1 to 2 months at least. Remember, Sprint has to add its crapware to it before release. I'm sure 2.3 has been finished for quite some time and Sprint has had it in some form tweaking it to their liking but taking their sweet ass time doing it. Also, I'm sure Google and the carriers have some sort of deal that .X and X.X updates have to be a specified amount of time between each other so the carriers can push newer phones to market. If they keep OTAing new updates to your current phone all the time, they see it as it will greatly diminish your lust for a new phone with new hardware/software losing money because you didn't upgrade.

Something we can take comfort in is the fact that the Evo is as good or better than any other hardware out there, so it's not like Sprint can really push anything else to us. I'm just hoping we finally get a good phone-to-pc video chat client.

We have a good phone to pc video chat, yahoo messenger video app works great. I use it all the time...

I completely Agree...

I dont think must users who did or do complain about 2.2 actually realized how major an update it was...

With that Said Cyanogen 2.3 will be sweet...

EVO will be getting 2.3. It is not an issue of hardware being able to handle it, Sprint is still heavily marketing the phone because they realize that they finally have a winner (unlike backing the Pre) and there is no heir apparent on the horizon to replace it (as in a newer EVO).

the Nexus S, has the same screen resolution, a 1ghz cpu, and same RAM. Essentially the same components so we will for sure be getting 2.3
