My Sprint GS5 takes around 1 1/2-2 hrs to charge form 10% up to 100%. How do I enable USB 3.0 mode so my phone will charge faster? Thanks in advance.

I think that is pretty fast but I could be wrong as I haven't tested an S5 yet.

Usb 3.0 mode us only advantageous for quicker data transfer speeds. There isn't any benefit charging wise

Well, don't you just have to use a real 3.0 USB cable? They box the phone with a 2.0. So I assume all you need to do to use 3.0 speeds is use a 3.0 cable.....right?

That is correct. Neither will give you faster charging though

I have a Sprint GS5, pretty sure it came with 3.0 cord, how would I know though which cord it is (2.0/3.0)?

Usb 3.0 covers both sides of the charging port. Usb 2.0 uses just half of the charging port and is the same cable used in the s1-s4 and many other phones

US carriers included the usb 3.0 cable, but they included 2.0 cables in Europe, the same cable that came with the S4.

Not true. Here, from the linked article:
Another less obvious benefit is you'll be able to charge your phone directly from your PC or Mac much faster (assuming you have a USB 3.0-enabled device). USB 2.0 ports generally provide up to 500mA current, while USB 3.0 is 80 percent faster at 900mA, making plugging your phone into your laptop more akin to connecting it to a wall charger.

This is theoretically true when using usb 3.0 port on the computer. But with a wall or car charger, it doesn't matter.

Also I have used a USB 3.0 port and the stock Samsung usb 3.0 cable and didn't notice faster charging.

New G5 out of the box yesterday. Seems it took 5+ hrs to charge from 25% to 100% using USB 3.0 thru laptop.

Am worried the device or OEM battery is defective.

Any thoughts?

Try charging with the stock wall charger that came with the phone

will try...on USB right now started at 65% now at 70% - only 5% in 50mins

will plug into wall and see if there is a difference

***UPDATE***
wall charging was fast as one would expect 25% in about 30 mins. What does this mean for USB charging then???

Hi
I have the exact same issues.

My battery died, i plugged in the new 3.0 USB mains charger, it took 5hrs too!!!

Using the wall charger to a dock mine always takes 3 to 3.5hours, from about 30% to 100%. I haven't tried it direct to a wall socket. Once it took 5 hours from about 5%.

With a wall A/C charger you should be able to go from nothing to a full charge in no more than 2 - 2 1/2 hours tops with the supplied USB 3 charger.

Around 1.5-2h for me when using charger connected to power socket, quite slower when plugged to pc USB.
