How Long To Charge The Battery The First Time?

So, I just picked up my new Galaxy Note 4.

I want to make sure I charge it correctly the first time. Usually, with devices, you're supposed to charge the battery at least 12 hours the first time, and run the phone all the way down until the battery dies, and not charge it again until the battery is drained. And, the first few times, you're supposed to charge the battery to 100% without interruption.

I've read the manual, but I don't see anything anywhere...?

That is actually bad for the new lithium ion batteries. Charge it to 100 percent, unplug and enjoy.

You are actually supposed to unplug the phone right when the battery tells you it's fully charged with the newer batteries. Of course nobody does that since most people charge their phones overnight.

That's how it used to be done with the older style batteries but not anymore. "Fast charging" used to be bad, too.

Now it is just plug and go. No need to occasionally drain it to zero either. Drives me nuts having to remember all these different rules.

stops charging at 100 percent whether it's plugged in or not . no longer matters if it's left plugged in.

The first two times that I charged it, it ended approximately on 2 hours.
But the third and fourth time, it finished in about 7 hours.
Is it normal? Should I be worry and buy a new battery?

Did you charge with the OEM cable and charger? Because it won't be as fast if you use a 3rd party cable or charger. I did a test with different cables and even with the multi-charging cable from samsung and they're all slower than the original that comes with the phone.

yes, absolutely
even under ultra saving power condition, the normal charging time lasts 7 hours. turn that off, it would be around 8.
I know this phone has a huge battery, but this charging time got me worried. Am I wrong?

It's actually the wall plug that"s the rapid charger. So I don't know if a different cable will make a difference.

1. No, your battery was designed to be fast charged. It'll be fine.
2. Even if fast charge puts a little extra wear and tear on the battery, which it does, it's a very small amount.
3. It's a replaceable battery. So in a year or so when it starts not lasting as long as you'd like - $20, battery life of a new phone for another year, boom, done.

Until the battery reads fully charged. Though if you don't happen to notice it reach that point, you can leave it plugged in. Or if you need to take the phone off the charger before it is fully charged, feel free.

Modern batteries aren't as fussy about such things. Charge it when you can, use it when you want.

It is possible that some batteries may last a little longer if you minimize the number of times they drop below 20% charge and rise above 80% charge, but I wouldn't put a lot of effort into that.

Worst case, the A3's battery isn't THAT hard to replace (not as easy as a Note 4, of course, but it only requires a plastic tool and a heat gun - and it's not a huge disassembly nightmare like the newer Samsung phones.
