Stock users are still on 4.0.2?
The biggest advantage for root is it allows me to get Google updates BEFORE Google pushes them. Just flash one of the many ROMs. Newer versions of Android are leaked or released by Google very close to OTA release (except Honeycomb). 4.0.3 source has been out for weeks now and is an upgrade for sure.
Idk, there's really no danger as long as you back up often, or push new files with fastboot if all else fails. It takes two commands to unlock, flash recovery, reboot into recovery, flash superuser install for root and you're done! Make a nandroid backup! <---Huge. Now Titanium backup and restore, or make a new batch.
