How many of you have turned off your Animations in settings?

I've recently learned that turning off all animations that you then get a faster performing device which now with every phone I get I turn on developer options in settings and go into it and turn off my animations. It definitely makes a huge difference when opening up apps and speed. How many of you do this too and if you don't I highly recommend doing so. It gives you a faster phone as animations are typically set at 1 for some reason. When I learned this tip it made an immediate performance change as my phone definitely was faster. I've never known why they keep animations on out of the box. Anyone know why by chance? Anyways I was curious who turns their animations off too like I do?

I've been trying different animation values for a long time, on different devices, and never liked the result of disabling them completely. Now I keep the three values at 0.5x and I think they are going to stay that way for a while.

Just a note, animation values don't improve the phone performance, just change how fast, or slow, the screen transitions are. It's kind of a placebo, what really changes is your perception of how fast your phone runs.

Where in settings do you a just animations value?

Weird I am using AC app and am getting adds for near my home in Canada but my IP is from Florida, and I just loaded the app today

So would you suggest I change mine to .5 as well. Have you found that to be the best number for animations? I've always turned my off but only because I was advised to as I was told the phone would be faster in a way. Is .5 better than turning them off completely? I think that I will go into settings and change mine to the likes of what you have and see if I notice a difference. Thanks for the insight on that. I appreciate it.

It's just a question of personal taste. I've tried different things, leaving the default values, switching them to 0x or 0.5x, changing animation speed and app animation in Nova settings ... For a while I only changed animations from Nova and now I'm trying with 0.5x in the developer options. I always found disabling animations (0x on the three values) too 'jumpy' and a bit annoying.

My only advice is try different things and see what you like more. As I said, performance doesn't improve, you are only changing the visual transitions when you interact with your phone.

Animation values are hidden in the Developer Options. You need to enable them first in Settings - about phone - tap on the build number for 7 times.

I guess if they make it difficult then I should not mess with it.

They don't make it difficult as they should enhance your experience as they make like opening apps faster and immediate with no lag. I typically keep mine turned off but the poster above advised to set them at .5 so I did that to see what it's like. It's hard to tell but apps do open up instantly the lower you go.

You don't really need to. For most users the bulk of those options are useless and a bit dangerous in some cases. They are mostly oriented to developers and sound too cryptic for normal users.

If you want to try and play around with them feel free to ask anything you need. It's safe, and even fun, if you don't get in there and just tap for the sake of tapping.

Another thing. Unhiding them it's quite easy, but if you want to hide them back you'll need to pay a little price (clearing data for you settings apps and lose your personal changes or, in some cases, doing a factory reset).

Well, not quite. :) My only advice with this kind of ... cosmetic ... changes is always the same. Try and test as much as you want and keep whatever you like.

I turned off mine right away

Of course. Use whatever is best. It really doesn't matter.

All good points. Most users really shouldn't mess with the secret menus like developer options

This is what I do in nova launcher at well. things are more smoother.
Exactly. Changing animation values in the developer options, and specially disabling them, makes transitions faster, but not more fluid or smooth. Playing with the Nova settings, under Look & Feel, can make things faster and still smooth, depending on what you like.

Well the honor 8 is already fluid and smooth to begin with. It has zero lag of any kind. If there is a setting that will speed up certain aspects then I would want to either change them to best or turn them off if that's the best. I heard both. Turning animations off to be good and keeping them at .5 is good so I'm not really sure which is best to be honest. Probably not enough difference to tell really. Not that I've seen or can tell by trying both settings. Both appear to be quick which is what I would want but for now I have mine turned to .5 but before that I had them set to off. I'm not seeing really any difference between the two.

Good point.

I didn't see much of a difference between the two either

It's quite noticeable to see improvement in the phones performance. Can't go back to not disabling them
