How much does it cost to replace a broken screen?

Samsung Protection Plus may not be better than any other insurance

So, I've been doing a lot of digging regarding insurance because I've been paying Verizon for insurance for 8-10 years and never used it... Which is fine since it's "insurance" but their plan cost a lot. So I was looking at alternatives such as SquareTrade and Samsung Protection Plus. Well, my extensive research proved two things... 1) No insurance from anywhere for an Android phone is as good as what you get from Apple Care for iPhones. 2) Insurance is ALWAYS (except for Apple Care) through a 3rd Party insurer and you are on your own to deal with them.

No big news that Verizon doesn't offer insurance - they offer you to get Asurion insurance through them. But when your phone breaks, you gotta deal with Asurion, not Verizon. After a whole lot of digging, I found out that Samsung Protection Plus is NOT through Samsung (I was originally hoping it was a Samsung version of Apple Care) - it's through Assurant (or possibly one of 2 other companies depending on where you live). So once again, no guarantee they are going to have "plenty of like new refurbished units" to give you if you shatter your glass. SquareTrade is an independent insurance company who also offers pretty much the same insurance, but for less than the others.

Reading reviews online on any of these companies you will find some positive "good experience" reviews and a LOT of "worst service ever" tales of long waits and run-arounds when someone actually needs to file a claim. This is pretty equal for all the phone insurance companies including the ones Samsung uses for their protection plus plan. Because of that, and hoping I never actually have to use it, I'm switching from my Asurion through Verizon to Square Trade. I figure if I'm gonna get the same crappy service anyway and hoping I never have to even file a claim, I might as well spend less on it.

Re: Samsung Protection Plus may not be better than any other insurance

Thanks for all this info. That just made me look a little more into it because I have always gone without insurance and been lucky, but this doesn't seem like it would cost very much. So for the Squaretrade plan, am I understanding it correctly that I could buy a 3 year plan and even though I am not going to have this phone for 3 years most likely, I can just transfer it to whichever phone I get whenever I upgrade? If that is the case, that does sound like a good deal.

On the other hand, the Samsung Protection Plus is $129 for 2 years (Square Trade is $119) and their deductible is $79 compared to the Square Trade $99 plus you don't have to pay the deductible unless it is for accidental damage. It sounds like they will just send you a replacement device right away rather than trying to repair it. Also, it says you can purchase this within a year of buying the phone, not 30 days. Am I missing anything else here why the Square Trade is a better deal? Is it because it is transferable if you don't plan to keep the phone for 2 years?

I had an 18" drop in an otter box symmetry, cracked screen. A buddy had a waist high drop, completely destroyed. I dropped my s5 constantly and never had an issue. I'd be willing to bet something comes out from Samsung or corning saying the glass is faulty.

I find the cost of s7 edge screen replacement on ifixit is $270. That is really horrible. We have some copy screens in stock for wholesale price. If you need please contact me.

Imho a screen protector that covers only the flat bit is the only sensible way.

All curved S/P's fail sooner or later, mostly coming off at the edges if used with cases, even without!

You can find 'flat bit' protectors on Amazon and ebay. They almost universally get bad reviews because the dickheads that buy them fail to read the description or even look at the pictures. Clever.

I use the following with my S7E;

SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle Series Premium Hybrid Protective

Genuine Leather Case, Magnetic Flip Card Holder Cover Swedish Designed for Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Black by Empire and Taylor.

plus a flat screen protector.

Are you saying if I break the screen on my Galaxy S7 Edge the screen is not replaceable and I would just have to buy a new phone

Posted via the Android Central App

That's not true!! Smh...Any screen can be replaced. The only time you would have to replace the digitizer if liquid vet in between the cracks. Yeah your fingers produce oil but it is not enough to do damage unless you are using sweaty fingers with a cracked screen. You don't have to pay that much money to get it replaced. Yeah it will cost you but not to high. The one's that turn people down by saying that you can't replace glass only don't trust in what they can do. If they have that much doubt in there work then they need to get out of the business. Glass on any edge phone can be replaced.

Ok, maybe this is a crazy question but hear me out. I have owned 3 smartphones prior to the S7 Edge and they have all lasted the full 2 years of the contract. I had screen protectors on all of them and minimal sized cases on all but the first one. I have never bought the protection plan and rarely buy the extended warranty on any major purchase so with all the money I have saved on those over the years, I am way ahead. I figured if the phone died in mid contract, I would buy a used one. I am using the device payment plan on this one so if it dies after a year or so, I could pay it off and get a new one. The last phone I had was the first tempered glass protector and I will never go back to another type once I saw how clear that looks. So I guess here is what I am thinking. I have a Spigen Slim Armor case on it now. Looks like it has pretty good protection around the edges and it feels like I can get a good grip on it. I might end up getting that Neo Hybrid also. Since there aren't any glass screen protectors yet that people have reviewed, and since Zagg doesn't have one out yet, am I crazy to think of not using one? The biggest reason I wanted to keep it clean was for resale value but I notice now Verizon has a buyback program giving $100 for any phone, $200 for an S5, and $300 for an S6. I figure to keep this for 2 years like I have for the others, and at the time it is going to be going for less than $200 on Ebay. Does Verizon offer programs like this frequently? If so, maybe I don't even have to bother with Ebay in 2 years if I get $200 for it from Verizon and the screen probably doesn't have to be absolutely perfect. Now if it shatters or something that is a different story. That is where my title comes into play as to how much it would cost to replace a screen. I am probably not thinking straight because it is late, but just thought I'd throw this out there. Maybe using a wallet case would be even better since the screen is always covered in your pocket? I generally try to put it in a pocket with nothing else but since I have always had screen protectors on previous phones I may not care sometimes. I know seeing a scratch on it would bug me, but my glass protector on the old phone has a few minor scratches on it. They are there, I see them all the time. I could peel it off and get another one but I don't. So maybe it won't bug me. Knowing that I can peel it off when I go to sell it and have a perfect screen is nice, but like I said, maybe it doesn't need to be perfect. I just have a feeling a tempered glass protector is not going to be easy to work this this curved screen.

I love so much to my s7edge but after cracked the screen it's so painfull moment fIr me and here in india cost of replace is 14300 INR
what can I do ;:(
