how much memory do apps take up

I have a question about stock internal Memory and How many apps can be installed .

WHat is the average size of most android Apps?
With 512 mb of space for apps does that give us enough space to really load up apps, or are we limited? if so how much?

i am aware that with froyo Epic will be able to write apps to SD card, but until 2.2 what can we expect from the current capacity.

I know Linux based systems are not memory hogs, but i am concerned about having enough space to store the apps I want.
Why would Samsung or most android phones only include 512 mbs of space when the other samrt phone (iPhone, Pre have 8-16gb internal)

Depends on the app but average is maybe 3 mb? I know some apps save files on your sd card so they can pull the information from the card, rather than saving in the internal memory.

More than you think. The Evo has the same amount of Rom and I never had a problem. Good news for you. Apps2SD has been tested and most apps run beautifully according to ROM hackers for other phones. So when 2.2 cones out, there's no need to worry about performance issues.

ive found the average size of each app to be around 2mb some bigger some smaller obviously

Yes, this is correct. There really shouldn't be a problem with space shortage no matter what. We're not looking at full on 1gb gps apps like the iPhone has...yet.

Thank you all for the replies. Being a linux user on my home box ( Mandriva KDE 2010) I figured that since it is running linux kernal it would be efficient with storage and as with Linux desktop systems apps are not huge in the memory dept. I am glad to know that the android phones are similiar.

Linux ftw! Best experience I've had with an OS. Period. Maybe not as helpful when it comes to certain tasks (missing software support), but I just love it!

Have been running Madriva for the past 3 years. Never a problem. No virus, no crashes related to OS.. The user community is amazing.

I was able to use my experience with Linux desktop to root my Palm Pre and I had a great phone. I wish the hardware was better and more active dev community.

I wish the Android phones supported compiz fusion or Kwin graphic effects like Cube effects. All eye candy but awesome none the less.

Most of the big games such as raging thunder and gangstar west cost hustle store the majority of the game files on the SD card fortunately (without apps2sd).
