How Much Storage Does OS and Included Apps Occupy on Note 5?

My guess is that this may vary from carrier to carrier, since each company includes different bloatware...

I am on Verizon, and it appears that OS is occupying 10.97GB...

I am not sure if I am looking in the right place though... I go to the Settings -> Storage... Then I click on "Miscellaneous Files", and right at the top, it says "System memory: 10.97GB". If there is a better place to look, please let me know...

Wow...good thing they don't offer a 16GB option... That would leave just 5GB of free storage (if 10.97 is the right number, that is)...

Really? I would have assumed that whether you get a 32GB or a 64GB version, that the OS overhead would be identical... Why would a 64GB device be different than the 32GB version? Not challenging you here...just curious...seems counter-intuitive to me...

The capacity of the phone is rated in decimal. The actual available space is in binary. Overhead might not use more but the conversion makes less space available. Even completely blank, a 32gb note 5 has 29.8 free,64gb. 59.6gb free, 128gb has 119.2gb free (if ever made). This is standard practice. So for example if the free space on a 32gb is
22gb, then on the 64gb would be 51.8gb,assuming identical files.

So Samsung masked the decimal to binary conversion... The actual space on the phone is 59.6gb. My guess is that Samsung put the 4.4gb difference lumped into the miscellaneous files.

10.97 - 4. 4=6.57gb = os usage.

So on a 16gb (14.9gb actual, you would see 14.9-6.57) =8.33gb.

Though I suspect, if the base was 16,that Samsung would optimize the files better so you would see a bit more free.

If you hold and clear the cache data it will also clear a bunch of the misc file data as well at the same time.
