How often should i charge s6 edge battery?

Hi guys, i was wondering is it safe to keep charging your battery over and over? People use to say that if you charge it over and over the life of the battery dies quicker. Is that true? Now is it a good idea to leave it plugged into the charger over night? I know once it hits 100% the charger turns off but when does it turn back on? I feel like it shuts off but if it drops to 95% it starts charging again. Thank you
