S6 only works when plugged into charger

hi, my samsung s6 only works when it's plugged into the charger. Once I remove the charger, the phone goes off even though the battery says 100%.

I thought it was a battery issue. I replaced the battery and still have the same problem.

I read that I can try to wipe the cache partition. I've tried holding volume up + home + power about 20 times and I don't get to any special menu, all that happens is the phone starts up as it usually would. is there another way to wipe the cache partition?

could it be something other than the battery or cache partition?

Welcome to Android Central! The Galaxy S6 is a 9 year old phone, so any replacement battery on the market has probably also been sitting on a shelf for years, and therefore may have also deteriorated to the point of uselessness. I don't think wiping the cache partition will do anything. It's time to move on to a more current device. Sorry!

LOL. I haven't used the phone for years. I'm going to get an s24 and I'm surprised they're giving me 800 trade-in credit for an s6. That is why I'm trying to get it to work. I'd rather trade in that old s6 instead of my current s8.

Yes, a factory reset will clear the cache partition.

What's the requirement from Samsung (or wherever you're doing the trade-in) for a working phone? Does it just have to power on, or does it have to stay on without being plugged in?

At this point, the device probably won't pass. From Samsung's Trade-in FAQ:

What requirements does my device have to meet in order for me to receive the trade-in value?

Your trade-in device must meet the following eligibility requirements:

a) Your device must power on, hold a charge, and not power off unexpectedly;

they told me that the phone can be in any condition but there can't be a battery problem. I had to install about 8 updates to the phone and I still can't get to the wipe cache menu. volume up + home + power doesn't do anything besides start the phone up normally.

the phone is running on android 7.0 if that matters

okay so it seems like the volume up button isn't responding. it pushes down fine but doesn't work for whatever reason. i tried raising the volume with my phone on and it doesn't work. volume down works but not volume up. i guess this is why I can't access the recovery menu.

Well that's really unfortunate & clears up the mystery on why you couldn't enter the menu you need.

Can you get to the reset through the General Management in settings?

Try searching for reset in settings. Of course, that resets the whole device, so no turning back. That would clear the cache partition, but I'm thinking the same as @B. Diddy, I don't think the cache is the problem. But for $600, it's probably worth a try.
