How often would you change your phone? And the reason to change?

One year? Two years? And why you change your phone? Because the phone has some problems or you want a faster phone?

When it can no longer run the current apps. A phone designed to run Cupcake can't run much these days. I expect my Note 3 to last at least another 3 or 4 years. (I still keep my V551 running, though. If I need a phone, but there's a chance it might get broken or stolen, that's the one I take. Replacing it from Craig's List for $20 is a ripoff. Replacing a Note 3 isn't cheap.)

Why would I change, and to what? An Ara phone, if I wanted to change and had the money to buy one with decent specs. Then upgrading becomes a lot cheaper. Otherwise, I'm happy with what I have for the foreseeable future (and I have great "future vision").

I'm on an every year upgrade cycle. I get new phones mainly because I like the latest and greatest. I did have the Nexus line (Nexus S and Gnex) but I switched to the Note line in 2012. I still have all my phones including the Notes 2, 3 and now 4, which I will keep if I upgrade to the Note 5 (only if it has a removeable battery). Otherwise, the Note 4 is quite snappy and up to date with 5.0.1 so conceivably I could keep it and wait on the Note 6. I guess we'll know the specs in September, until then I'm happy with my phone family for the time being.

I'm in the crowd of wanting the latest & greatest devices. Planned on getting either the S6 or M9, but I just purchased the 6+. I kinda shook the habit after owning the M8 for a year. Gets expensive after awhile
