How often do you guys do a factory reset of the device? I know I did it like once a month on my pre just to keep it clean and speedy.

Never.

You can wipe the cache partition from recovery and clean up everything without losing any data. I only wipe when flashing a ROM that the developer says needs it.

factory resets aren't that important. I don't know why you would do it with the Pre. I never did mine and it was just as fast the day I got it, a year ago.

With all devices, when I start experiencing issues with
the performance of the device. With my Nexus One,
I'm always flashing a new rom, so it is pretty much like

Sure !

Unrooted way - menu>settings>applications>manage applications>

select each app from the list and press the Clear cache button. If it's not available, there's nothing to clear.


Rooted way -
Install Rom Manager, boot into recovery, select wipe cache from the list, reboot
