How strong is the camera glass?

I get so excited when I get new tech, and moving from an iPod 5G to a Note 4, the camera is in a different place so I tend to touch it more. I know this sounds stupid but I tried to push it to break it (LOL). The glass is really strong and it's Gorilla Glass 3 I believe. How strong is that glass and how hard is it to get it scratched?

Also, do I need to get an otterbox case for my Note 4? I had a crappy case with a crappy screen protector for my iPod 5G and my screen cracked really bad after I dropped it for like the 10th time. Currently I have a bear motion glass screen protector on with a Neo Hybrid case and it looks great and slim but protection seems mediocre and I had to buy an adapter to fit the headphone jack....

I had a plastic holder I had made for my Note 2 and was sanding a slot for the lens glass cover to fit. I guess some of the carborundum from the sanding wheel got stuck in the plastic and scratched the glass. Mohs scale of carborundum is 9-9.5.

Lens selfie follows, shot in Auto about 1/2" from a hard drive platter. No nerd here, move along now. but you can see the scratch halfway between the heart rate sensor and the aperture starting on the edge of the covering glass.

Does it affect your photo quality?

Not one bit. I think where the concentric circles are is directly under the glass and does not move, so it is shadowed by that. Measured it at 1.5 millimeters in length.

This was one of my top concerns since I'm going naked on this phone, and saw a lot of stories about S5 camera lens breaking.

I really needed something that would stick out beyond that lens cover. I like to play in the dirt, gold pan and mineral collecting and here in Colorado rocks are everywhere.

I have a fear of scratching or cracking my camera glass so I went to BB and bought an invisishield for the motor 360. Measured and cut out a square and applied it to my camera lens. I have taken several pic ax this evening to make sure it doesn't interfere. It's all clear and now I am not worried about harming my lens.
